you might want an 8k bake if you were consolidating four originally 4k textures? i'd think the number and original sizes of source textures determines how much space the consolidation needs, give or take how efficiently the islands are packed

Before I watch this complete series can you explain me what exactly is happening here , Are you reducing the topology to get smoother animations or are you making changes to the obtained model like changing hairstyle etc or is it something else entirely , I have a robin model for which I have to make changes , So before watching this complete series to its entirety I want to know what exactly is going on :).
